mooncut: Project 2

mooncut: Project 2

For this second project, I used the laser cutter in the Brown Design Workshop and designed a project that would emphasize lines. I also wanted to explore juxtaposing the work of the laser cutter with my own: precise vs. imperfect, machine vs. hand, dark vs. light, wood vs. fabric. I also tried printing a wooden frame, but I had some difficulty with the laser cutter cutting through the material, so I had to scrap the idea. Below is the digital version of the frame concept.

I sketched the drawing in Procreate and then went into Illustrator to create a vector version. This was sent to the laser cutter to cut out a piece of jean fabric, which I then glued onto a handcut paper and wood background. I also handcut some small stars and leaves. Below are some progress photos.
